Arrow

I remember like it was yesterday...

Mommy and me were standing on the corner waiting to cross the street when I saw him. The cutest puppy sitting in the big PetShop window. I looked at him, and he looked at me. I heard my mommy's voice telling me to get moving, but how could I? I was busy, staring into the brown eyes of my new best friend. When I pointed to him through the window, my mommy just laughed and said, "No dogs in my house!"

I couldn't believe it! Didn't she know I had just found my best friend? I promised that I would take care of him and clean up after him. I swore that I would brush him and walk him everyday, but she didn't believe a word I said!

When Daddy got home from work, I tried explaining to him just how important Arrow was (That's what I named him), but he only listened to Mommy's argument. Then, he told me if I wanted to bring home Arrow, I'd have to prove that I could be responsible. So that night, I took the dirty dishes from the kitchen table after dinner, and stuffed them all in the dishwasher. I squeezed a whole lot of soap inside and pushed the start button. Right after dinner, I put on my pj's and brushed my teeth before mommy or daddy had to tell me to do it. I used the potty and put myself to bed JUST like a grown up.

The next morning, I woke up extra early and boy was I glad I did! The kitchen was filled from floor to ceiling with MILLIONS OF BUBBLES!! I must've put the wrong soap in the dishwasher! I quickly grabbed arm loads of bubbles and threw them outside. Once I cleared most of them out of the way, I took mommy's nice kitchen towels and wiped up the floor and counter tops. Just as I started to take out the trash, I heard mommy and daddy coming down the stairs. I wanted to make sure that they saw me being good, so I waited with the trash bag for a minute.

They both saw me and asked me what I was doing. I made sure to answer like it was no big deal.

"Just taking out the trash like a responsible adult."

Then, they asked me why the kitchen looked so shiny...

I said, "Because I got up extra early and cleaned all by myself."

They both looked impressed!

I scooted along and took the trash outside. When I came back in, I found mommy and daddy staring out the kitchen window at our backyard full of bubbles. Before they could ask me anything, I said, "Weird, isn't it? I don't know where they came from!"

They looked at each other and laughed. Then, mommy told me that since I had been such a good little boy, that we could go into town and get whatever I wanted for my birthday!!! I didn't even wait for them. I turned on my heel and ran outside in my pj's. I sprinted down the sidewalk and turned onto Main Street. I could hear them calling after me to slow down, but I just couldn't! I skidded to a stop just outside the PetShop and there he was. Arrow, my new best friend, stared right back at me. I knew it could still go either way. After all, mommy and daddy both said no yesterday. So I made my best puppy face and after they whispered to each other for a couple of minutes, they said YES!!!!!! I threw open the door to the PetShop and ran right for him. He gave me lots of kisses and I knew he loved me right away. It was my best birthday ever!!!!

The End.
