NIGHT NIGHT STORYTIME
Red Snowflakes
A bump in the night, a creek by the door.
Little girl Molly crept from her bed to her floor.
A flickering light cast shadows in the air.
In a small voice she squeaked, "Who is it?...who's out there?"
There was no retort, no reply nor answer.
With a shaky little hand, she lit a small lantern.
She held it out in front of her and tip toed to the hall,
When she saw the red light reflected upon wall.
Gasp! She felt the blood drain from her head to her toe.
She looked around quickly for the closest window.
The glass was completely frosted with fresh snow to the brim.
She asked again, "Who's there? Have you come? Are you him??"
Just a few mousey steps more to reach the top of the stairs.
When the small sound of a jingle bell sounded in the air.
The color red danced on the walls and windows above.
And she finally saw for herself, the legend she dreamed of.
He was placing presents carefully to be found in the morning.
She watched him with awe as she heard her parents snoring.
The lights 'round the tree shifted from red to green to white.
A large red suit, white beard and toy sack. Oh Boy, what a site!
Her tiny lantern flickered and tossed shadows on his rear.
She let out a small giggle and startled the reindeer.
Surprised, he whipped around to find such a small little thing.
And the jolly old elf thought, to this little girl, joy I must bring.
He held out a doll and said, "Here you go Little Miss Molly."
"Have a happy Christmas and enjoy your new Dolly."
She couldn't believe it! Santa Clause spoke!!
He was real! He was here! It wasn't just a mean, twisted, evil, bad joke!!
He stepped into the chimney and disappeared in a blink.
She ran back to her room too excited to sleep a wink.
As she snuggled in bed and blew out the small light,
From her roof top he sang "Merry Christmas, dear Molly, now sleep tight tonight."
