NIGHT NIGHT STORYTIME

Princess Izzy & the Dragon
My name is Izzy and I am seven years old. For all my life, I have lived in the second tallest room of the Golden Bell Castle. My dad thinks I'll be safe from dragons up there. I've told him a hundred times that there's one living right in the attic over my room, but he never listens to me! All he has to do is go up there and check for himself, but he's busy. I guess being a King is a hard job. My mom on the other hand- always getting her jewels polished and her hair styled- she's never really busy, but always too busy to check for that dragon.
I wake up every day and do what a good princess should: I groom my coat, use my litter box, and drink my milk like a good little kitty. You would think that they would have the decency to believe their own daughter when she's so well behaved, but I s'pose the language barrier makes it difficult for my parents to understand me. They are human after all.
I spend most of my time in the attic with Howard- that's what I named him. He doesn't want to eat me like they say. They told me I was dragon food, but Howard just likes my company. I don't know how he got stuck up there in the first place.
It was just yesterday (we were sun bathing in the big window together) when we saw a group of dragons flying around the lake by our castle. He got really excited and tried to squeeze through the window, but as soon as he caught sight of the guards outside he stopped trying to escape. I saw his predicament immediately. If he managed to escape, he could killed before he reached his family. Naturally, I wanted to help him. So I ran from the attic, sprinted down the long, swirling castle steps and slipped by the guards. I ran right for the lake full of dragons and once I was halfway there, I stopped and turned back to the castle. I meowed loudly to catch their attention. The guards looked up and noticed me at once.
They started pointing behind me and calling my name, trying to get me to run to them. They're SO lazy. I could tell that they were panicking so I flopped on the ground rolled around like a good kitty. I glanced up to the attic window and saw Howard wiggling his way through the opening. My plan was working! Howard would be outside in no time and the guards would be none the wiser! He'd be back with his family any second! I was as happy as a clam until I rolled over and saw that the dragons had left the lake.
I shot up like a mousetrap and sprinted towards the castle entrance as large shadows swooped over my head! I was wrong! I WAS dragon food! Even the guards retreated inside the castle! They left me out there to die! The flying beasts were much bigger than Howard. I glanced up in my sudden panic and saw Howard had worked his way out of the open window. I could feel the shadows closing in behind me. Their claws spread wide open, ready to scoop me up no doubt! I was too terrified to look.
Just then, Howard came diving into view above me. His claws were out. He was about the snatch me up, that traitor! To my surprise, he landed with a heavy boom, his feet spread out on either side of me. I instantly played dead- I'd heard this could work. When nothing happened, I peeked one emerald eye open and found him facing his family. He was protecting me! I stood and rubbed against his ankles with gratitude. I KNEW he loved me all along.
Just then, I heard my mom and dad calling for me. I said goodbye to Howard and trotted back to the castle. I was safe and sound with my family of humans, and he was reunited with his dragons. That'll teach em. Princess Izzy does not lie about dragons in the attic! And Howard made sure his family knows that we princess kitties are not dragon food. All in a days work.
The End.
