The Witch Hat

My name is Jango and I'm going to be a witch kitty for Halloween.

It all started yesterday when my mommy set out all of the spooky decorations. I had just finished sharpening my claws on the "good" couch when I looked up and saw the most perfect witch hat. It was propped up on my chair, practically calling my name! I ran over and jumped up, checking it out for size and all. It was perfect! I leapt down and ran to mommy. I rubbed against her ankles and asked her if I could go as a witch, but she just looked at me funny and asked if I was hungry.

My tail twitched. It does that when I get annoyed. Why couldn't she just answer my question? I asked her again.

"Meow? Meow?"

But mommy just said, "Jango. I don't know what you want. I don't speak cat. Do you want a treat?"

Oh! She was getting closer! I wanted lots of treats on Halloween! I tried again, this time, MUCH louder.

"MEOW!? MEOW?!?"

Mommy froze and looked down at me again. "Jango, are you okay?"

I raced back to my chair and jumped up. I posed in front of the witch hat. It looked perfect behind me!

"Meow?" I tried one last time, rubbing against the black hat.

"Ohhhhh," she said, "do you want to wear the witch hat for Halloween?"

I purred. "Meow!" She got it! I have the smartest mommy ever!

I'm going to wear the hat and go trick-or-treating with my big sisters in a few days. Don't tell them, but I've got the best costume!
